First Group Convention in a Long Time … The Brain on Helpful Alert at the Convention … Friday

Next week, Donald “The Brain” and I travel (in separate planes – oh yes we do think of these things- planners- ok digressing) to a cooler … higher elevated climate for the first large group convention in four years and much longer for being at the same one together…

With family commitments we make it fast – heck even watching the weather for a smooth departure – we skip the big concert for a return to the kiddos….. but we will be inhaling as much information in a “divide and conquer manner” so as not to overlap events when possible…

As mentioned here, “The Brain” in funny coincidental terminology has been asked to carve out “Brain time” for other attendees to pick his Brain on the use of some very special technology in which he is not only a master power user but a helpful designer as well.

Will try to bring some good pics back for your viewing pleasure… but will certainly come back with lots of topics and ideas here in this venue for your continued review….

Ahhh, but that is next week and today is a very rainy Friday heading into an early fall weekend… enjoy and talk next week!

Donald “The Brain” gets asked to be “Brain Date Ambassador” (Cannot make the name up) at upcoming conference … Well done and Congrats

Newbies may not be in the know, so we will happily give a little brag to our resident “Brain”… Donald the Brain that is…

When first announced many years ago … new access to some extremely sophisticated portfolio software tools became available, after tons of due diligence … Donald was ready to take it under his wing and we were off to the races…

Word sneaked out of his use and knowledge by the developers and later he became a Beta user, The Brain was instrumental in trial runs of updates and changes in programming as well as new design directions and applications….

Total control of positions, taxes, possible tax scenarios, specific level basis control to mention a few were the platform features … in non- “Wall Street Gibberish” controlling risk in our investment portfolios and paying as few taxes as possible… is the main function of this software…

A fellow professional tapped my shoulder, “Isn’t that your partner on the big screen?” “No he is at home this trip!” No, he was on the big screen talking of the use and adjustments of new portfolio tools…

The Brain as Brain Ambassador – Requested Yesterday

The inbox of Donald showed a request yesterday of being a coincidentally named “Brain Ambassador” have not gotten to the bottom of the request name yet but running with it for now….

Apparently someone still knows his knowledge of the platform!

“Would you be willing to have advisors have a Brain date at the conference and answer specific questions about the software?”

Honor and a pleasure…. yes of course he will…

The Brain to the Beach … Newsletter Hits the Presses … Friday

As mentioned earlier … neatly this year we were able all have flex schedules and each of us were on R&R at different times.

While technology allows us complete connection, a little looser tether is always welcome when possible.

Newsletter at the Presses in NY

The final touches of the Newsletter have been completed and the NY pressers are in motion. Look for the paper copy in your mailbox soon….

We coined this Newsletter “The Reminder” given much of the content is a timely reminder for to do’s and laws that were passed but likely forgotten given the unique 2020!

We of course will also do a Video explaining in greater detail our thoughts and how we came up with the articles as well as greater insights than the coverage may allowed….

Ahhhh…. but today is a Friday heading into a much welcomed beautiful weekend in our neck of the woods…

DOJ Approves Merger, Great News for The Brain …. Sports is starting (Big Weekend) …. Shark Week begins too … Travels … Friday

As mentioned here, TDAmeritrade and Charles Schwab agreed to merge early on in the year, (wow that seems like a long time ago- digressing) and due to government regulations, the DOJ (Department of Justice) needed to bless the deal – antitrust thoughts – too big, monopoly questions … it was on hold!

Good News …. the deal was approved, and even better news for The Brain, as noted here and here, is an expert with a very special portfolio management and trading technology, which the combined companies announced this week would be a part of the new joint effort.

Not only that, but The Brain is already a part of a new Beta group, which had gone silent… (likely to start up again) to integrate even more features which The Brain will be a major advisor….

Well Done Donald!

Sports Starts = A Full Weekend! Golf, Basketball, Baseball, Football

Long time followers know, that while the family is a total Tennis nuts and crazy family, your’s truly was a collegiate golfer, helping pay for three years of college via scholarships.

This weekend, a Major Championship on the favorite West Coast time makes for the perfect late evening … Sunday night viewing of the final nine of the Tournament.

Basketball (NBA) continues it’s fast tracking season with only a few more games until the abbreviated playoffs.

But don’t stop there …. Baseball (MLB) after a few scares, missed games due to infections and paused events, seems to be back on track….

NFL  …. professional football start more workouts in full force too !

Sunday night, hopefully just after a fantastic final Golf Championship concludes,  a family favorite begins…

Break in, coincidence or not? – After a few years of moving to earlier calendar (family dislike) it is now back to early August – Ok … digressing again…

Discovery Channels Shark Week commences at 8 PM Central Sunday Night and airs until the following Sunday….

In a hitting home on some programs … Jen at the office mentioned an unusual occurrence in her home town of Long Island, that we both think are a part of the special…

It’s  human nature to take this all for granted occasionally – he doesn’t fly like super man you know — haha – kidding!

Donald “The Brain” with a Black Eye?

What’s the only thing you really don’t want to have when your having a photo shoot?

In a “You cannot make this up way” The Brain arrived in Dallas yesterday morning for a record breaking fast whirlwind tour photo shoot, then flight back home – with non other than – you guessed it …. A Black Eye!

Thanks to an opponent softball player’s wild elbow while turning the base, The Brain had a nice shiner ….

Jen’s continued baptism was in full force as the waterproof cover-up was handy … no more black eye! Sorry folks, a perfect photo moment was lost as they both knew I would want a pic, and they waited until a much needed gas refill was occurring – rats, missed it..

Well, we cannot say for about three more weeks, but when we can – WE WILL – LOUDLY

Travels

As you read this I will likely be in a plane with the 13 year old, headed to a National Tennis Tournament in a warmer state, where “What Happens There, Stays There” … 100+degrees will feel like summer again ….. All Good!

The end of the THIRD – yes – third quarter, of 2018, is next week — it goes fast…. spend time with those important …. talk to ya next week!

3000+ people to start the multiple day 14 hour a day conference….

Boom!   The lights are up, the attendees are revved up …. out walks the first speaker …

Later on in the  morning, David Cameron the former Prime Minister/President of Britian spoke …. Possibly the best talk ever … tons of notes to share. Even an in person meeting and quick chat…..

Today “The Brain” Donald Capone is in the house once again for a very quick turnaround CFA Institute event. We will both be out of the office for most of the day due to this event.

Next week brings our Video summary review for October…Wow… this year continues to go quickly, some interesting news on why we joined NAPFA (National Association of Personal Financial Advisors), the official Holiday Party Invite, among a few other items (26.2 on deck.)

Donald “The Brain” does it again…A good company showing

In mid December 2012, during an industry related event, as written here in our “Holiday Party and Nerds” post a good-sized group of financial professionals including ourselves turned a nice holiday party into a slightly heated discussion concerning the end of the year market close for the S&P 500.

The most interesting or entertaining portion of the event, depending on your point of view was the conviction most had in their point of view. Remember in mid December there were very little information on the fiscal cliff compromises, not that there are today (I digress), but there were certainly tons of uncertainties.

And the winner is/was ….drum roll please……..drumroll

Donald Capone, Yep the brain did it again! His call was 1440 and with a closing of 1426 he was the winner over 9 other participants including myself.

Let it be known, J.K. Financial, Inc. was well represented with Donald taking the next to last Friday winner, myself as the last Friday winner with a 1400 call, and Donald sealing the deal as the ultimate winner.

We are of course happy to let you know of our winnings, but please do not take these as a conquering of the capital markets as there is a lot of luck that goes into such calls. We are happy to be lucky any day of the week!

PS The newsletter came out terrific and we will highlight a few items next week ..Break In, Break In,…..Grrrrrr! One of our predictions was just scooped, by a news story early this am…Tim Geihtner is leaving at the end of the month…we predicted some time this year, with concerns, in our newsletter!
