Friday Office Hours, Out but Tethered …Time Change Weekend … Spring Break … Punxsutawney Phil Spring Tree Update … Spam/Cyber Preview – Look Out they are Back!

As mentioned last Friday … with the kids completely out today, for the betterment and the safety of the streets, we are out today as well … officially starting our spring break a bit early as next week IS spring break, and we will be out of the office all week next week …. but tethered electronically as always!

Time Change Weekend!

One of our favorite days of the year occurs this weekend, the time change. Don’t forget to change whatever few clocks you may have that do not automatically change Saturday night as that leads to an irregular time read and unnecessary stress usually occurring when we’re in a hurry of course….at least in my experience!

Snapped less than 24 Hours Ago – Spring Tree

Thank you for the Spring Tree Comments…. you have personally spurred us to continue the tracking… although we are likely nearing the end of our journey… Hence the bigger picture!

The following Punxsutawney Phil Spring Tree update was snapped (used same camera and same location for better reference) less than 24 hours ago …

Now we are cooking… Hello Spring … at least in Texas!

Closing Break Reflections and Personal Thoughts

For some reason being out of the office brings clarity….

Maybe it is the slow Wifi or maybe just different location/surrounding….

No matter… we are happily “Lightly” Tethered… the keyboard is tapping with residual to do’s/Newsletter/Blog posts… speaking of which, a great Cyber related post coming Monday… worth your time… and yes, really enjoy doing this over time off…. never work!

Have a Great Friday/Weekend and if Your Spring Break… that too… Talk Next Week!

Fantastic News … Possible No Time Change Starting in 2023, End of Spring Break … Friday

Hat tip to RR for sharing a Reuters story about the possible no longer changing from daylight savings time starting next year in 2023!

Woo hoo!

The possible downside is in the depths of the dark months the little ones going to school in deeper darker mornings, so we all need to be more careful if this passes. The upside is likely better moods in the evening for those same little ones as they will have extra time to be outside, better moods for those grown-ups too (present party included) with extra time in the evenings of light, and may be a little darker in the morning!

Today is a Friday, heading into the end of the Spring Break Week … Was fun to be away, but will be fun to be back!

Talk Next Week!

Break In: Spring Spotted … Spring Break Next Week … Newsletter Completion … Time Change Weekend YAY! … Friday …

With an unused make up snow day today (not sure how that happened but oh well) – kiddos out today – and next week being Spring Break an attempt personally to take some R & R time next week, I am out today and next week….

Always tethered, this time lightly as Jen and Donald are very capable of covering !

BREAK IN – Spring has sprung… each year the family watches for the early budding Tree in the back yard… Great News, the deep freeze of just a few weeks ago did not do our early budding tree in AND in the last 24 hours the blooms have started…

Who needs the Groundhog… kidding-

Well done Pierce for spotting !

Newsletter Update

While gone, the finishing touches will be put on the Newsletter, AND next week we will do a shortened version of one of the main articles – Why You Should Check Your Social Security Earnings Record Now!

Time Change Weekend – YAY

In addition to a little R and R, next week, we get my favorite time change! YAY

Sure we lose an hour of sleep…

Sure it seems to take a bit longer to adjust as the years go by…

But the Suns stays up LATE in the evenings…

Friday and Next Weeks Posts

If I can stay away from the keyboard – no promises…haha

In addition to the Newsletter Preview Post mentioned above, a re-run of another reminder post will occur as well.. hat tip DK from the field as a neat reminder!

Spring Break Schedule Travels – Spring has Sprung – Time Change/March Madness – Friday … Spring Pictures

Next week is our school spring break. Each year we try as a family to take time from the rigid schedules of Tennis, travels, school and late arrival to home time. This year we will be out of town attempting to do the same. While last year we even tried not to have posts here – unsuccessfully… we are going to try even harder this year to be absent for the week … without a post as well.

No promises as we will be tethered lightly electronically as always!

Luckily the office Spring Breaks are staggered, leaving you in the capable hands of Donald the Brain and Cathy.

Spring has Sprung-

Speaking of spring … the all knowing Tree in our back yard has begun blooming, signaling the official start to spring. While not Punxsutawney Pennsylvania it’s record is perfect for the last 17 years …

Time Change

Remember this is the time of year we gladly give up that extra hour of sleep in order to have extra light at the end of the day.

Don’t forget to happily roll that clock forward on this Sunday – yaya, most clocks do it automatically.

Let the sunlight evenings begin and a little March Madness too!

Today is a Friday, heading into a Spring has Sprung, Spring Break Week along with a much welcomed Time change.

Enjoy your day, your weekend and talk to you …. fingers crossed, not until the follow week.. no promises!

Here are a few more Spring Pictures from the family favorite jogging and walking trail near the house.

Have a happy “Spring Has Sprung” Day!

Friday Travels … Spring Break Next Week … One of Favorite Events of the Year THIS weekend !

As this post hits your in-box, I am traveling out of the office/state.

Next Week is Spring break and I will be out of the office, however technology easily tethers us and with the office team at full steam, not a beat will be missed.

I intend on not posting, but really think that is wishful thinking … just too much to say and too much going on, but we will see !

Time Change Weekend … YEAA!I clip art Time cloc

Even losing that hour of sleep is absolutely no match to having sunshine late into the night.

Do not forget to roll that clock forward … more likely, don’t forget that clock automatically rolled forward … haha !

Enjoy your weekend, and if a fellow Spring Breaker, safe travels.

Restless Night October Boooo … John’s D Magazine Best Financial Planner on the Rack … Halloween, Time Change

Ever wake up in the middle of the night stirring of something in your life? You toss and turn, grumble, and finally get angry because you cannot go back to sleep as this issue/problem seems so insurmountable? (If you said no, pat yourself on the back, you are lucky)

You wake the next morning only to chuckle at how silly the worry was, and how you can easily conquer this problem/issue.

Maybe it is Halloween, or season change… who knows, but once again, October made for the middle of the night sleepless concern as capital markets gyrated, only to finally awaken to the fact that they are seasonally entering the best months of the calendar, as reminded here and here.

Not to worry, we have you covered …

Dallas’s D Magazine Best Financial Planner

As mentioned a bit early, after reading the congratulatory letter (letter asked to hold off on announcement until this week … oops, never saw that before), this week the “Formal Edition” of the Magazine hit the racks even with a mug of yours truly.

So this is the official announcement:

John was honored and flattered to be nominated as one of D Magazines Top Planners for an Eighth consecutive time!”

… much better!

Somehow they managed to sneak my mug and bio on the very last page of the entire section …. hand slap for early announcement? Ok …that’s fine, sorry guys.

Oh, of course K is the new Z in the alphabet! No matter, we appreciate the notoriety, congratulations fellow winners, most of which I know personally, are good professionals, and stand up folks.

Halloween Update

Pierce 2014Long time readers know today is the Mrs. absolute favorite celebratory day (last year pic) of the year. She says it’s the candy, I think it’s really the dress up. This costume which has been on and off since September, yes that early, is our recent Birthday boy (not me for those who also spied this picture on another popular public site … I promise) shows the family enthusiasm. Wish homework was completed that early!

Time Change Reminder

If you want a reason to spend time with those special in your life, how about this, tomorrow night is clock change time.  Seems like yesterday we were moving time to a more light evening. Don’t forget to spend … and oh yaa, move those clocks back too!

Have a Spooky Safe Halloween and a good weekend!

Don’t File Those Taxes YET … Employment Friday … Spring Break Travels… Time Change Weekend

With a week that started as a possible smoldering cold war, it’s almost hard to believe Friday is here and the conflict seems a distant memory.

Hold On Tax Filings YET

Congratulations to all of the prompt tax filers who have completed, or are almost there on your tax returns. Please hold off on your actual filing as we expect several more rounds of corrected 1099’s. The first round of corrections were minor in quantity, which usually means this will be a light year, however we have had  years where we are walloped in the second or third round. We will give you the green light as soon as the coast is clear.

Non-Farm Payroll Update

As we have mentioned/worried, the last two months non-farm payroll employment report have been less than resilient. (I know we have been mentioning this frequently…apologies, but this report is that important.) The street was expecting 150k for February (released today) and the actual was 175k … Ok, not a coast is all clear, but we feel much better now. We still feel there is abundant froth in the capital markets, but this eases our slow down scenario.

Spring Break Next Weekspringbreak

Next week is one of the most popular weeks of the month for spring break and my family and I will be out-of-town to a warmer climate for the week. We will be visiting clients, family, and friends, and will also usher in a week-long tennis school for my daughter.

With the newest Capone on final approach and having landing gear down, my tether to technology will remain flexible (light unless otherwise needed.)

Time Change

Turning the clock back is a favorite as the loss of sleep is way offset by the later dusk arrival. Don’t forget to turn yours’ Saturday night/Sunday morning if it does not automatically.

Enjoy your Friday and your weekend.

PS My plans are to let the keyboard rest next week, but no promises!

Time Change…our favorite time of the year…spring break…Tax Update

This Sunday morning (3-10-13) at 2 am, don’t forget to move those clocks forward, stealing an extra hour of sleep. While we hate giving away the time, we greatly enjoy the evening light..This time of the year is our favorite.

Next week brings spring break for many, including myself. Tomorrow morning marks an early am rise and a multi-hour drive to the mountains. Sleepy time for the gang in the car is great thought and strategy time for the coming Newsletter and end to the first quarter for me. While many of the articles are in place, extra thought time usually leads to diverging ideas to share.

Taxes this year so far have been reasonable based on our point of reference and we really have to compliment everyone for getting a head start on them…Well Done! Again, hold off on your filings. Generally we are seeing less difficulty in deciphering the new cost basis reporting 1099’s, making it easier for all involved.springbreak

As mentioned above, I will be out for the majority of the week, working in the morning from my favorite Starbucks electronically while the family sleeps and skiing in the afternoon…..not to worry the days of aggressive runs are in my past…our goals this year, Pierce the 5-year-old gaining control and skiing on his own.

Have a Great one hour shortened weekend talk to you next week!
