Smetters

Here is a link as well to the show-

There were some fantastic questions – The last time I was guest host, we were both stumped and this time it occurred again —

Someone asked if we knew of any long term care companies that would cover retiree’s living in another country!

Kent tossed to me and I back to him, “Not that I know of!”

Watch for a full article in the coming Newsletter !

Full confession – Due to a chicken/superstitious nature – you are reading this AFTER the show was recoreded ! haha

Have a Great “Out of your Comfort Zone” Day!

We were flattered and honored to be asked again to guest host the Wharton Business School, Your Money Live Sirius Satellite Radio show

After almost 30 years of experience in the industry, the heart still pounds before the show….

  • Will I do my intro ok?
  • What questions will come in?
  • Who will call?
  • What if I get a twister question?
  • What if my phone goes out or the electricity drops? Not kidding…You do think of these things…

The last 20 minutes before the show… feels like an ETERNITY… (I am creating this portion of the post just before the show …. Under Pressure ….for reality!)

Michelle Stucker the producer calling… I am added to the show …. Pink Floyd music stops… it’s show time !!!

Live Guest Host Appearance Last Night

We were asked to co-host the final leg of the two hour show last night and it was a blast… rapid fire, off the cuff questions came in from across the country…Wharton Your Money

  • Gary a likely career Military person calls with extra money to invest, after dissecting his situation, Max the TSP Military retirement plan
  • John from Alabama with a question on an IRA windfall – keep the funds in the beneficiary IRA for sure, various ways to invest the funds, but keeping the funds as an IRA most impoortant

Boom…and just like that, it was over… Michelle popped in my ear and said we want to have you back more frequently and thanks very much for the help !!  I happily agreed!!!

Jeremy Siegel …. Investopedia 19 thousand views … Market Comment

This felt like a Wharton Business School week.

After guest hosting the Wharton Sirius Radio show on Tuesday, on Wednesday who pops out of the hallway for a speaking event that I was attending, none other than Wharton Professor, researcher, and noted author, but Professor Jeremy Siegel.20160518_202754686_iOS.jpg

Thanks to a quick handed friend nearby, a picture was taken. There was even enough time to ask if he was friends with Kent Smetters, the host of the radio show, which Professor Siegel said of course he new him. Not being too impressed by the fact that I was a co-host just 24 hours before… I asked Professor Siegel to say hello to Kent for me anyway…

This time, unlike Professor Siegel’s last appearance, we were able to get his slide deck… expect some great posts in the future as we dissect his views …. ya ya nerds… Hey this guy is kinda famous in our industry!….still nerds…

Investopedia Update – 19k Views ! WOW

In an effort to help many, in a public manner, this week we were notified that our top three Investopedia answers had received more than 19 thousand views.

This was great news as the weekend question answering is doing good and gave new enthusiasm!

Market Note

On Wednesday of this week, the FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) released their minutes from the most recent official meeting on April 26-27. There is a slight delay for completion and digestion purposes.

Bottom line – FOMC members are telegraphing a possible June rate hike. Short term a headwind, long term a positive from our perch!

We have some great information from various sources on this subject …. BUT it is a Friday and this has become a longer post than our normal Friday… Enjoy your weekend and look for more info soon on all of the above!

Even with the knowledge of two prior shows, the heart rate was most notably higher just before the producer, Michelle, connected me to the live show.

After an hour of fielding calls and answering questions, the third show was in the books, and once again a TOTAL blast!

Very flattered to be asked, very happy to be asked back immediately again in the future !

Great Questions and a wonderful way to give back !

Stumbling into Mid-Year …. John guest on LIVE Wharton School Business Satellite Radio

dudGreece, Puerto Rico and China synchronized negative events to end most capital markets mid-year around the world in dud like fashion. Almost all gains for the year for US markets were erased. (They were small to begin with!)

Not to worry, this is a journey not a sprint!

Wharton Radio guest AGAIN

Kent Smetters, a Wharton Professor who hosts a Wharton University Sirius Satellite radio show on Tuesdays, was kind enough to ask me as a guest again yesterday.

After several callers, one with a VERY complicated situation, the spirit of entering this industry to help EVERYONE (or as many as possible) was once again achieved.Wharton Your Money

Even after all the speaking events, talks in front of many, and a general fondness for public speaking ….

I was wound tight before the show!

Oh…the producer asked if I would do another soon….Sure !

Have a Great Middle of the Year Wednesday!

Another special Tax saving Financial Planning Tip: consider clumping of those property taxes

Pull out your tax return from last year, and the prior if you have it.Uncle Sam $

If you are not itemizing (or just barely over the standard deduction) you MAY be a candidate for clumping your property taxes.

Now pull out your tax bill that you most likely just received. If multiplying it times two throws you well over your standard deduction, consider clumping two of our tax payments into one year i.e. Pay January and December of the same year and then skip the next year, especially if you are not itemizing or just barely over the standard itemized amount.

IRS Standard deductions for 2014:

  • *Married filing jointly or surviving spouse $12,400
  • *Head of household $9,100
  • *Unmarried $6,200
  • *Married filing separately $6,200

Confused? Give us a call, we will explain!

cO-aNCHOR Sirius sATELlITE RADIO SHOW

Early this month (Nov 4) I had the honor to be asked to co-chair a financial planning Sirius radio show, presented by Wharton Business School and a finance professor at the university.Sirius Logo

After the intro and background of myself and our firm, the phones immediately rang from across the United States with multiple single individuals, many of them women, matching much of our client base.

After a full hour of spontaneous questions and answers, the show was on to the next segment. What a fun experience and a super way to give back.

Have a Great dash to the end of the year!
