Not surprising, due to various forms of fraud. the US Government is no longer processing Paper Checks…
With such vigorous use of electronic transfer, we initially thought this was a 2026 deadline… Nope…this was last year …but caught our eye as financial institutions are now jumping on board!
We would expect payments TO the Government, think Quarterly ES Tax payments etc. to be next on the extinction list… followed by our personal banking system (this will be tougher, but the ball is in motion!)

Press Release from
August 14, 2025
Washington, DC – Big changes are coming! Starting September 30, 2025, the federal government will stop issuing paper checks for most federal payments. That means if you’re still receiving federal check payments, it’s time to switch to an electronic payment method.
“With paper checks over 16 times more likely to get lost, stolen, altered, or delayed, we encourage those still receiving paper checks to make the switch today. Electronic payments such as direct deposit are safer than checks, allow quicker access to funds, and have less risk of fraud,” said Fiscal Service Chief Disbursing Officer Linda Chero.”

In the end, mandatory electronic transfers are safer… BUT do not let your guards down, the bad guys have moved to this venue as well…
Pro Tip – Do a test before sending/receiving any larger quantity of money – Once you have cleared the path, in most cases a template can be saved for repeat use!
Pro Tip Part II – Take your time and set things up in advance, hurried or last minute rushed transfers are ripe for problems – Ever notice when going to the Airport if you are early EVERYTHING goes just fine – not so much when you are running late – same concept !
Checkbooks will likely remain … but electronic check cashing will take over for the mail processing!
Have a Great “Paper Checks on the Decline” Day!
