Late in the evening yesterday the search was on for tax information… in this case, what, if any Social Security was reported to the IRS for tax purposes….
The above exercise was a great reminder, as a last resort for tax information … when everything else seems to fail, there is a plan!
What a Transcript is? Why you may need one? and How to Request it?
A transcript is nothing more than all the items reported to the IRS for income tax purposes… Think 1099, W-2, Interest and any related information that the IRS mandates reporting…Oh, it of course is connected to your Social Security number..
You may need to request a Transcript if you are uncertain that all items reported to the IRS have been received by yourself… Think change of address or recent move, taking care of a relatives information who may be forgetful or just not in receipt and unable to get a copy of a report that you know was sent to the IRS i.e. Bankruptcy
Here is the header of the IRS Website – click the picture to jump to the page….

Follow the instructions on the page and either sign in to your IRS account or just request a paper statement…. My experience last night resulted in an “Unavailable at this time try again later message!” … Hopefully this is not standard response from here to April regular filing due date…if so the good ole “Extension” may be in order!

Have a Great “Handy Tax Report” Reminder day!
