Yesterday (2-13-24) attendance of an ALL DAY conference was on the schedule…. You could ask the gang at the office, after committing …the literal flood of email invites for coffees, lunches, dinners and chats was a bit overwhelming and took some of the enthusiasm out of the event, or at least set the bar pretty low. With a good friend and study group buddy as one of the main speakers, hopeful positive experience was in the cards.

Summary and Conclusions from the Conference

The good part of this event were all the speakers were fellow practitioners, albeit from all different asset angles….
So here are the cliff notes from an 8 hour, fast paced, heavy duty of information event…
Cautious Optimism – Most all speakers were fairly positive, but being actual fellow managers, well aware of the unique economic situation the US Economy is going through and multiple voiced a possible sharp market adjustment due to higher interest rates and Geopolitics
Current loan/Debt Financing – With rates much higher than just 18 months ago, not surprising, a general concern of how commercial loans (3 year terms) will refinance is an unknown concern
Inverted Yield Curve – Only one of the about 20 speakers, brought up the abnormality of the sustained inverted yield curve, and expressed the need for normalcy sooner rather than later, a major concern from our perch…. Has it been so long we have all forgotten?
Unanimous thoughts on Concentration – Being a seasoned group, it was not surprising for the subject matter of concentration of just a few stocks controlling some of the major indexes being an issue… Only one of the speakers embraced with all others warning… Time will tell…
My conclusion: After apprehension to attend, appreciation of the event, good education, fellowship with some old friends and a great post update was achieved….
Have a Great “All Day Conference Update” Day!
