Sporadic Tax Forms –
Tax forms are hitting our systems with irregularity now…. some are dated much earlier, but only dropping digitally recently. If you are in need, reach out, if we have it we will get it to you asap… no confidential data on the forms (front digits are blacked out) so good to quickly email.
Rental Car Accident – You cannot make this up! Reminder Lesson – Cell is your friend!
While normally we do not share travel schedule (family and property security reasons), this one was just too much to pass up. While on a trip this week out of state in an area commonly traveled, while eating at a very very casual diner that is a regular stop … a waitress calls out “Who’s driving this type of car!”
“Oh no it’s me!”
“Sir your car has been smacked.” It’s a rental, we’ve been through this before … outside and around to the back of the restaurant while it’s raining … not hard, but enough to be uncomfortable, to find that yes the drivers side rear wheel well had been banged up … not too terribly bad. A quick survey of the landscape no one is around! Returning to the very low key breakfast restaurant.

Once seated back at the diner fom a neighboring customer … “How did it go? … They’re gone somebody backed into me and must have fled”.
Two down in the deli like chairs that swivel and have no back … a very nice lady says “Oh I think that may have been me that maybe backed into your car!”
WHAT! You can’t make this up. She quickly pulls out ALL of her information (Social Security, Medicare, library card, credit card cards, medical, supplemental car insurance – read on for why this last item may have been a good idea) –
Writing these posts over the years helps with the memory – even in weird events like this … From this post on Accidents way back in 2019 rattled through my head!
Former Police Chief, Current Judge Offers Suggestions
“Use your camera as a weapon; Video tape and picture everything you possible can, including VIN numbers of the cars involved, and even get an interview with someone as a witness if you had someone that would do that.”
Back to our culprit: She was a very sweet mid 70s year lady who lives by herself locally, originally from New York (two adopted grown kids) and really wasn’t sure that she had backed into me … although a patron had called the restaurant while it occurred and squealed so to speak! For the record by the time this was all over we were relatively good friends for the time being.
As the check of her car for damage occurred, there was damage on every corner. Again in a you cannot make this up moment, after returning to the restaurant… “Did you try to back in or pull in forward when you hit my rental car?”
She casually said “Oh that other damage was from last week when I hit someone else!”
Told you you couldn’t make this up! By this time everyone in the restaurant is listening and shrugging their shoulders.

These are only a few of the damages to her car, there are tons more pictures taken for safety/insurance reasons!
A 911 call was made the police who said they would do their best to get to the aforementioned restaurant. About 15 minutes later the owner of the restaurant comes to me and said the police called her directly (regular patrons) and said that they would be late because there was an unfortunate death aka homicide just down the street … fender bender v Homicide! – Told you … Can’t make this up!.
After all of this goes down the hope is that my newly found friend did not create the other problem, kidding here, Pretty sure she did not. But back to the moral of the story. The police never showed up even after two and a half hours, my newfound friend left at the hour and half mark, saying a curse word and “I am leaving, let them find me!”
Moral of the story is it was somewhat a humorous and maybe made for comedy skit moment, but the cell phone became a partner as pictures of her driver’s license all of our insurance video taped her car and took pictures of the entire surroundings for protection.
Hopefully this will be enough to convince the rental company if they want a police report and did not receive one that this is all legit and not my fault!
Oh… went back to the restaurant again later around the same time as Police are regular at the restaurant… saw my “Car crasher Friend” absolutely no recognition of myself…. about five regulars said hello! Cheers to new new found friends…
Finally …Found the Police too…they said file the report on line cannot do one in a private parking lot! Doh…Told you… Cannot make this up!
Have a Happy Friday “Laugh on me” but Safety reminder day/weekend!

What a story. Any problem with the insurance company? Did they have the pleasure of reading this story?
